Letter from RCT

We have received a letter from RCT planning acknowledging our last letter and the issues we raised.

Meeting with Gerald Leeke

Five members of the group met with Mr  Gerald Leeke, Emma Leeke and Peter Martin at Leekes store on Tuesday 1st November.

We were pleased to note that Mr Leeke agreed with many of the concerns we expressed in our second letter to RCT except for the phasing issue and their loss of road frontage. To protect their business interests they want:

a road infrastructure in place,

to be able to move from one building to a new building over-night and have continuous trading;

they don’t want to be surrounded either by dereliction or by the problems of construction work.

As a result, although they are interested in a new store, they have still to reach agreement with the developers and they therefore will not be named as part of the outline planning application for the scheme.

They noted that the site manager./ board of St David’s 2 in Cardiff is uncomfortable with the development proposal as they can foresee loss of business.

It was proposed that we remain in contact with Mr Leeke as the planning application progresses.

Questionnaire.

Richard has created the survey electronically in SurveyMonkey. A header to be added explaining the questionnaire

Len will put a link on our blog to the questionnaire and will send email to supporters asking them to complete the questionnaire if they have not already done so and asking them to send the link to local friends, family and colleagues. He will also advertise it on the Pontyclun hub, Twitter and set up a Facebook group.

Claire will google Pontyclun groups in order that we can send questionnaire link to them and will monitor Linked In and consider whether this is an appropriate site for advertising the group and the questionnaire.

Questionnaire will be delivered to all households in Pontyclun area with the Labour Party newsletter.

Marg to send a copy of the questionnaire to Mr Leeke along with survey results.

Sightline from Llantrisant Church

Emma Leeke mentioned that one issue that has had to be satisfied prior to submitting the planning application is the sightline from Llantrisant Church.

Marg to write to Emma Leeke asking for clarification of the issue and to Llantrisant Community Council.

Meeting with Countryside Council for Wales

In September, Marg received a letter from Mr Thomas of CCW suggesting that members of the new town development working group met with officers of RCT planning department and the Countryside Council for Wales.

We had already arranged to meet with officers of the planning department at RCT and their officers were unable to attend because of the short notice.

Marg to write requesting a meeting

Continuing tactics of the group

Members discussed the continuing tactics of the group. We have had  a positive reaction to our approach from the Council, developer, councillors and Mr Leeke.

We agreed

·       We are waiting for the outline planning application in order that we can respond

·       We will continue to independently consult with members of the public through the website and the questionnaire in order that we

o   Maintain a high public profile of the issues concerning the development

o   Encourage members of the public to respond to the planning application and consultation when it starts

o   Keep the public informed of new information

Minutes of public meeting

Len to amend minutes to note questions from Mr Pembridge. Omitted due to error

Next meeting

To be held on Thursday 17th November 7.30 pm

   at 6 Llantrisant Road
